Getting started
The
best way to start is to prayerfully seek the Lord about what He would
desire for you to do. If you honestly believe He wants you to start a
home group you will find people come your way who are of similar mind
and leading.
Then what?
Once
you've determined that you are to start a home group, you will need to
figure out the details ... details like:
-
Where you will meet ? (That's sort of a big one.)
- What
time will you meet? (Our home group meets on Shabbat -- the Sabbath,
but you need to meet when it works the best for all involved.)
- What
will be taught and who will do it?
- What
about worship?
There
are probably plenty of other legitimate questions that need to be
answered besides these and as before, you'll need to prayerfully
consider each one and the issues invovlved. Of course when you think
you're ready to proceed from here, there's the little matter of
resources.
Resources
Let me
make this perfectly clear, the LORD will be your main resource (Psalm
147:11). Those of you who have been walking with Him for any length of
time already know that. It is important to recognize however, that as
believers meeting together, we need to be challenged to grow in the
Lord. Besides that, someone wiser than me once said you can't
take anyone further in a relationship with God than you've gone
yourself. It is for this reason that all of us need others as a
companion resource to God's Word to help us grow. The greatest
preachers in history all used the walk and example of others as a
resource. We too need the writings and lessons provided by those we
trust to help us develope. No matter how good a teacher you think you
are, it would be smart to bring this issue of resources before God and
seek His advice on what should be taught to your group.
